About the Job

This position will provide support in the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives unit of Archives and Special Collections, focusing on supporting researchers and processing collections.

This position is a non-academic, short-term, 67 workdays or less appointment.

Work Schedule and Location: On campus in Elmer L. Andersen Library, Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

**This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
  • Sorting and arranging of historical materials while applying different processing criteria to different projects, following directions of professional staff (50%)
  • Creating of and editing of finding aids for collections using ArchivesSpace (20%)
  • Assisting with advanced searching of Archives and Special Collections finding aids for information to help researchers with reference questions, as assigned by professional staff (10%)
  • Retrieving materials from the storage area following set safety guidelines and procedures (20%)
Qualifications

Required:
  • Basic office skills (filing, alphabetizing, sorting, and accurate typing).
  • Able to perform essential physical demands includes, but is not limited to: frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping/bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to serve and interact with customers and guests in a pleasant and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with both verbal and written skills.
  • Attention to detail in an environment with repetitive tasks.
Preferred:
  • Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and independent decision-making.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Available to work in shifts of 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Available to work a range of 14-40 hours per week.
  • Strong knowledge of the history of Jewish communities of the Upper Midwest.
  • Experience in processing archival collections according to professional standards.
Physical Requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation (if applicable):
  • Ability to move and transport boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00/hour
